In this edition, we’re delighted to feature Jermaine, Functional Assessor, who shares his honest and inspiring journey since joining PFAS. From career limitations in a previous role to finding a clear path for growth and clinical development, Jermaine’s story is a great example of how PFAS supports individual ambition with real, structured opportunities.
Now, let’s dive into Jermaine’s experiences and learn what makes PFAS a place he has chosen to call home.
Please introduce yourself!
“Hi, my name is Jermaine. I’m a functional assessor and clinical trainer, I joined PFAS in 2023.”
What does a typical day look like for you?
“So when I’m working as a functional assessor, I could have a day of three people that I speak to or a day of four people that I speak to. So, my day will start off with me reviewing their documents that they’ve sent in, followed by a call that will have with them. I’ll have a call with them for around an hour and then the hour afterwards from the call, I’ll write up a bit of a report for them and then that gets sent off. So I usually do 2 cases in the morning and then break for lunch for about 30 minutes or so.
And then come back and finish off the afternoon with either one or another two cases. If it’s a day where I have 3 cases, then I’ll have time to do some extra reading. Bit of CPD (Colleague Personal Development) time as well, catching up on any emails and things like that. And then if it’s a day or four, then I’ll just do it at 4:00 and finish off for the day!”
Why did you join PFAS?
“I decided to join PFAS mainly to support the next step in my career progression. I had been progressing well in my previous role, working alongside a physiotherapist, but I began to feel there were limitations and restrictions holding me back from developing further.
When I joined PFAS, I was clear about the path I wanted to take, particularly around the training pathway and gaining more clinical experience. I was able to ask directly, “What do I need to do to get there?” — and I was shown a clear route forward. Fast-forward a year or so, and I’m now actually doing that role, which is great to see.
One of the things I really value about PFAS is how open the opportunities are. As the company continues to grow and the teams expand, new roles are being created to support that growth. It’s not just about waiting for someone to leave in order to move up. If you can demonstrate your ability and your willingness to learn, there are real opportunities to progress – and for me, that’s been a big, big plus.”
What is your Top Tip for joining PFAS?
“So my top tip for joining PFAS would be to be patient with yourself. I think when you do join, there is a lot of information that you do have to take on board but as long as your patient with yourself – you know we’re not going to learn everything straight away. It’s going to take time, which is why we have such long training support to help you. Be patient with yourself and be dedicated to actually learning.
As long as you’re open to learning and open to feedback, I think that’s that’ll be a solid foundation to get you going and start a long career!”
